            Softball Recap: Hueytown Golden Gophers vs. Hillcrest Patriots        
        
		
        
        
            Hueytown lost to Hillcrest  back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Hueytown Golden Gophers came out on top against the Hillcrest Patriots by a score of  8-5.

 Bryanna Kemp made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound,   striking out six batters over  2.2 innings while giving up   no  earned runs or  hits (and not a single walk). What's more,  she gave up only zero  walks, the fewest she's  had since back in February. She was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-4 with one  home run, five  RBI,  and one  double. Those  five  RBI gave  her a new career-high.
 Kemp wasn't  the only one making solid contact as  three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Kelsey Johnson, who  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 1-for-3.  Madison Smith also deserves some recognition as  she  snagged her first  stolen base of the season.
Hueytown's win bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Hillcrest, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8-1.
 Hueytown will have some time to savor their  victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Corner at 5:00  p.m.  on April 1st. As for Hillcrest, they will look to defend their home field  on Tuesday against Sipsey Valley  at 4:30  p.m.
