Basketball Game Preview: Calhoun Red Devils vs. Van Bulldogs

The Calhoun Red Devils and the Van Bulldogs will round out the year against one another at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Calhoun is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Man on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Calhoun lost 63-42 to Man. The Red Devils haven't had much luck with the Hillbillies recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Despite the defeat, Calhoun saw an underclassman step up: freshman Baron Davis posted 21 points and five steals. Davis is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brennen Carpenter, who had ten points.

Even though they lost, Calhoun smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Van was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 16th straight loss dating back to last season. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-57 heartbreaker at the hands of Meadow Bridge.

Calhoun's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Van, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Everything came up roses for Calhoun against Van in their previous matchup back in January, as the team secured a 79-38 victory. In that matchup, Calhoun amassed a halftime lead of 39-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
