Basketball Recap: Wellington-Napoleon Takes a Loss

Wellington-Napoleon lost against Lone Jack back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wellington-Napoleon Tigers were dealt a 60-32 defeat at the hands of the Lone Jack Mules. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-9.

Despite the loss, Wellington-Napoleon saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cali Russell posted eight points along with six assists and four steals. Those six assists gave Russell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Raelee Rukavina, who earned seven points.

Even though they lost, Wellington-Napoleon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Wellington-Napoleon has been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 18 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-20 record this season. The win (which was Lone Jack's seventh in a row) raised their record to 16-2-1.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Tigers take on the Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lone Jack does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
