One of the top programs in high school football just got better heading into the 2020 season.

IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) added five star quarterback transfer J.J McCarthy of Nazareth Acdemy (LaGrange Park, Ill.). The 2021 Michigan commit led the Roadrunners to back-to-back 7A state title game appearances and they won it all in 2018.

Over the last two seasons, McCarthy has thrown for over 6,300 yards and 71 touchdowns while going 26-2 as the starting quarterback.

His addition puts the Ascenders in the conversation to be the No. 1 team when MaxPreps releases its preseason rankings next month.

McCarthy joins a talented roster that includes JC Latham, Walter Nolen, 2021 Ohio State commit Tunmise Adeleye, Tyler Booker, 2021 Tennessee commit Kamar Wilcoxson, 2021 Georgia commit Lovasea Carroll, Kaytron Allen, 2021 Michigan commit Greg Crippen and Myles Rowser.
