Volleyball Recap: Musselman Wins High-Profile Contest Against Martinsburg

Musselman faced Martinsburg in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Applemen had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 3-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-2 back in August.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Musselman who won the one that mattered. The final score came out to 27-25, 20-25, 26-24, 20-25, 18-16.

Musselman was led to victory by Gracie Ganse and Brielle Wolf. Ganse had 12 digs, while Wolf had 13 kills, five digs, and two blocks. Those 12 digs gave Ganse a new career-high. Reese Troxler also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Musselman was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in nine consecutive matchups.

Musselman is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. As for Martinsburg, their defeat ended a three-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-4.

Coming up, Musselman will head out on the road to challenge Shady Spring at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Martinsburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Hardy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
