Softball Game Preview: Haywood Tomcats vs. Dyer County Choctaws

The Haywood Tomcats will face off against the Dyer County Choctaws at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Haywood 3.7, Dyer County 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Dyer County will be up against a hot Haywood squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Tomcats came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against Bolivar Central.

Lillian Scott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kaitlyn Smoot was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Dyer County faced South Gibson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Choctaws lost 9-2 to the Hornets. The Choctaws' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Dyer County's loss dropped their record down to 27-8. As for Haywood, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.
