Basketball Recap: Clark Cougars vs. Churchill Chargers

Clark won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They lost 60-37 to the Churchill Chargers. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Chargers are ranked 36th).

Churchill had a senior duo take command as Daphne Zuniga went 7 of 9 on her way to 17 points and four steals and Rakiya Nelson dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Zuniga continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alina Hernandez, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points and six rebounds.

Clark's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-11. As for Churchill, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-5.

Clark didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-19 win against Madison on the 3rd. As for Churchill, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 76-45 victory against Brandeis on the 3rd.
