Basketball Game Preview: Westwood Redhawks vs. Sumter Gamecocks

Westwood hasn't had much luck against Sumter recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Westwood Redhawks will challenge the Sumter Gamecocks at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Westwood took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past West Florence 68-34. Given the Redhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Knights are ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Sumter came up short against Ridge View on Friday and fell 68-60. The Gamecocks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Westwood pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points per game. As for Sumter, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Westwood couldn't quite finish off Sumter in their previous matchup back in January of 2022 and fell 54-51. Can Westwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
