Basketball Game Preview: Gunnison Cowboys vs. Centauri Falcons

The Gunnison Cowboys will take on the Centauri Falcons in a holiday battle at at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Gunnison comes in on three and Centauri on six.

Gunnison will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Grand Valley, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Gunnison came out on top against Grand Valley by a score of 42-29 on Saturday. While the Cowboys didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Gunnison's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kylee McDougal led the charge by putting up 16 points along with five assists and four steals. McDougal has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Sienna Gomez was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, Centauri faced Sanford in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Centauri secured a 46-41 W over Sanford.

Centauri pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for Gunnison, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
