Montana State pledge helped Sentinel reach the Class AA semifinals.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020-21 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.

Alex Germer of Sentinel (Missoula) is the 2020-21 MaxPreps Montana High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-7 senior helped the Spartans go 17-3 en route to the Class AA semifinals.

Germer averaged 24.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest while knocking down 44 percent of his 3-point shots.

Germer eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career in an 88-62 victory over Big Sky (Missoula), finishing a special night with 51 points and breaking the Class AA record with 13 3-pointers.

Committed to Montana State, Germer is regarded as one of the state's top prospects.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 13.
