Volleyball Recap: Mourning Comes Up Short

Mourning was the 3-0 winner over American Heritage when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Sharks fell 3-1 to the Patriots on Wednesday. The Sharks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mourning was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made American Heritage work for it, especially in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 20-25, 25-23, 27-25.

When it comes to explaining why Mourning lost, don't look at Mila Besharat. Despite the final result, she had 50 digs and two assists. Besharat has been hot recently, having posted 30 or more digs the last four times she's played. Sadie Dunham was another key player, getting five digs and two aces.

American Heritage's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Veronica Perez, who had 11 assists and four digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Lisamore, who had 19 assists and 14 digs.

Mourning's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for American Heritage, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season.

Mourning has already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Archbishop McCarthy on the 19th. As for American Heritage, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-2 victory against Mater Academy Charter on the 18th.
