Basketball Recap: Columbus International Comes Up Short

Columbus International easily dispatched South two weeks ago, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Columbus International Lions fell just short of the Jonathan Alder Pioneers by a score of 58-56 on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Columbus International lost, don't look at Leila Carter. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 30 points and 18 boards. The contest was Carter's 11th in a row with at least 15 points. Marley Benson was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.

Jonathan Alder's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Natalie Hess, who went 8-for-14 to rack up 18 points and three steals. Those 18 points gave Hess a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy McGrath, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards.

Columbus International's loss dropped their record down to 17-5. As for Jonathan Alder, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-16 record this season.

Columbus International does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Jonathan Alder, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 38-30 defeat against London on the 18th.
