Baseball Game Preview: McAuley Catholic Warriors vs. Jasper Eagles

The McAuley Catholic Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Jasper Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. McAuley Catholic has given up an average of 13.5 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Things were looking good for McAuley Catholic after they put the first runs on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Purdy, falling 20-5. The Warriors have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Tyler Richards put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Richards was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

Richards wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maxwell Anreder, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Will Mollnow also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Jasper was able to grind out a solid victory over Sarcoxie on Saturday, taking the game 8-3.

McAuley Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Jasper, their record is now 6-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. McAuley Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Jasper struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
