Keystone has gone a perfect 10-0 against Wellington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Wildcats will challenge the Dukes at 10:00 a.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Medina hit Keystone with a eight-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats fell just short of the Battling Bees by a score of 12-11. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Battling Bees 8-1 in the first period.
Meanwhile, Wellington made easy work of Oberlin on Wednesday and carried off a 15-7 victory. The Dukes haven't had any issues with the Phoenix recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Mallory Pickering was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs and one double.
In other batting news, Caedyn Wacker and Madison Minutello did most of the damage at the plate: Wacker got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Minutello got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Wacker a new career-high. Alisia Simko also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Wellington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Wellington's record now sits at 7-8. As for Keystone, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-7.
Everything went Keystone's way against Wellington in their previous matchup back in April, as Keystone made off with a 20-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
