Preview: Mountain View Bruins vs. Layton Lancers
Having just played yesterday, the Mountain View Bruins will jump right back in to play the Layton Lancers at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mountain View comes in on five and Layton on nine.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, a fact Mountain View proved on Wednesday. They wrapped up 2023 with a 61-46 victory over Mountain Ridge. That looming 61-46 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Mountain View yet this season.
Mountain View got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Simeon Suguturaga out in front who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. That's the first time this season that Suguturaga posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Mella, who scored 20 points.
Meanwhile, Layton faced Murray in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Layton escaped with a win on Wednesday against Murray by the margin of a single free throw, 57-56. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Layton has scored all season.
Mountain View's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Layton, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
