Baseball Recap: Eastern Greene Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

After losing to Bloomfield the last time they met, Eastern Greene decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Thunderbirds walked away with a 7-4 win over the Cardinals on Friday. The game was the first time the Thunderbirds have beaten the Cardinals on their field since May 3, 2019.

Gavin Whitfield was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brenton Cook, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Eastern Greene has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bloomfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
