Basketball Recap: Jefferson Bears vs. Riverview Pirates
Jefferson lost against Riverview back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Jefferson Bears received a blow as they fell 63-44 to the Riverview Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 358th, while the Pirates are ranked 163rd).
Riverview found their leader in sophomore Gracie Urista, who went 6-for-7 en route to 15 points. Urista continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kate Patterson was another key player, putting up 11 points.
Jefferson has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Riverview, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
Jefferson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 47-44 loss against St. Mary Catholic Central on the 13th. As for Riverview, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 52-46 defeat against Flat Rock on the 13th.
