Basketball Recap: Mason Eckenrode's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Glendale over North Star

Glendale was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the North Star Cougars, falling 57-37. The Vikings were probably out for revenge after losing 55-43 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Glendale's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Eckenrode, who posted eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of David Frowner, who scored nine points.

North Star had a senior duo take command as Ethan Smith dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds and Andy Retassie went 6 of 14 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight assists and three steals. Smith is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Toby Sheehan, who had nine points and seven boards.

Glendale's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for North Star, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Glendale has already played their next game, a 61-45 defeat against DuBois Central Catholic on the 29th. As for North Star, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-22 victory against Blacklick Valley on the 29th.
