Baseball Recap: Grant Comes Up Short

Grant extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping their season record down to 6-20 in the process. They lost 8-2 to the Cordova Lancers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 6-1 loss back in March.

Grant saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Niko Hernandez, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Cordova, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-11-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.

On Cordova's side, Nathaniel Jones was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Jones has become a key player for the Lancers: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-10-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Nyberg, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Coming up, Grant will host McClatchy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Pacers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cordova, they will head out to take on Antelope at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
