Basketball Recap: Josiah Jones Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Stony Point

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Harlan had no problem doing just that on Friday. They skirted past the Stony Point Tigers 75-73. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Hawks were down 46-32 in the second quarter.

Harlan's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josiah Jones, who posted 19 points. Jordan Mangum was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Stony Point lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Uzziah Buntyn, who put up 25 points and five steals. His evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Short, who shot 45% from the field en route to 18 points and seven rebounds.

Harlan's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 26-10. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.5 points over those games. As for Stony Point, their loss ended a 21-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 32-5.

Looking ahead, Harlan will take on Jordan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Harlan has insisted on making their last three contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 3-0 during that stretch of close contests. Stony Point does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
