Basketball Recap: Lawrence-Nelson Drops Season-High Score on Rock Hills

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lawrence-Nelson). They pulled ahead with a 64-63 photo finish over the Rock Hills Grizzlies on Tuesday. The Raiders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Grizzlies, too.

Lawrence-Nelson found their leader in sophomore Wyatt Frey, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 18 boards. Those 29 points set a new season-high mark for Frey. Another player making a difference was Caden Culbertson, who posted nine points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

Lawrence-Nelson was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Several Grizzlies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cooper McDill, who put up 26 points along with eight assists and eight boards. The dominant performance gave McDill a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Whelchel, who went 6 of 10 en route to 16 points and seven rebounds.

Lawrence-Nelson has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points per game. As for Rock Hills, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Lawrence-Nelson has already played their next contest, a 59-52 victory against Kenesaw on the 17th. As for Rock Hills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 56-28 win against Stockton on the 17th.
