Softball Preview: Ferris Yellowjackets vs. Venus Bulldogs
Ferris is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Venus is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Ferris Yellowjackets will host the Venus Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ferris' pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Life Waxahachie with a sharp 18-0 win. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Landri Davis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Aubrie Henson and Valorie Carrillo did most of the damage at the plate: Henson went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run, while Carrillo scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those four RBI gave Henson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Turner, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Ferris always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They are undefeated (5-0) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Venus won against International Leadership of Texas Keller on Friday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. Venus beat Kennedale by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1.
Venus is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. The win got Ferris back to even at 7-7-2.
