Basketball Recap: Independence Knights vs. Emerson Mavericks
After flying high against Ranchview last Saturday, Independence came back down to earth. The Independence Knights took a 60-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Emerson Mavericks on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 390th, while the Mavericks are ranked 176th).
Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Emerson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence will be home for the holidays to greet Memorial at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Memorial's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups. Emerson and Lebanon Trail will compete for holiday cheer at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Emerson's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Lebanon Trail has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
