Baseball Game Preview: Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets vs. Nash Central Bulldogs

The Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets will head out to challenge the Nash Central Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Roanoke Rapids has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Roanoke Rapids managed to slip by Northern Nash the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Yellowjackets lost 25-3 to the Knights last Thursday. The Yellowjackets' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Blaine Warren was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ayden Brantley, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Nash Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against First Flight on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Nighthawks by a score of 10-9. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Bulldogs, who until this contest were averaging 3.53 runs allowed.

Tanner Moss made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Tyler Bowen was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

This is the second loss in a row for Nash Central and nudges their season record down to 12-5. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Roanoke Rapids, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Roanoke Rapids suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Nash Central in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
