Two dominant signal callers in Joe Fernandez and Damian Briano are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Pebble Hills Spartans will host the Montwood Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Pebble Hills put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 49-7 victory over Coronado. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Pebble Hills found their leader in sophomore Fernandez, who threw for 245 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 65 yards on only five carries.
Pebble Hills was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 211 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Pebble Hills didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jose Ambriz. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight. Another thorn in Coronado's side was Jelan Parra, who picked up two sacks and made seven total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Montwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by Franklin 84-49. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (47), the Rams still had to take the loss.
Pebble Hills will need to focus on slowing down Adrian Cortinas, one of several Montwood players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 147 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Cortinas is also on a roll when it comes to receiving touchdowns, as he's now hauled in two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Gene Palmer was another key player, gaining 115 total yards and two touchdowns.
Pebble Hills' victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Montwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Everything came up roses for Pebble Hills against Montwood in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 38-7 win. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
