Basketball Game Preview: Skaneateles Lakers vs. Phoenix Firebirds

The Skaneateles Lakers will take on the Phoenix Firebirds at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Skaneateles' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.

Skaneateles is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cazenovia 70-40. Skaneateles has beaten Cazenovia the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Cazenovia has come to flipping the script.

Meanwhile, Phoenix waltzed into their game on Wednesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They walked away with a 73-61 win over the Mustangs. Given the Firebirds' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Mustangs are ranked 317th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Phoenix's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points over those games. As for Skaneateles, their win bumped their record up to 13-9.

Skaneateles strolled past Phoenix when the teams last played back in January by a score of 64-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for Skaneateles since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
