Baseball Recap: Belen Jesuit Takes a Loss

Belen Jesuit was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monsignor Pace Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolverines of the 2-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Marcelo Llorente was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Belen Jesuit saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andres Gross, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was Gross' first of the season.

Belen Jesuit now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Monsignor Pace, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Belen Jesuit will host Archbishop Carroll at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Monsignor Pace, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Key West at 6:00 p.m. Key West's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Monsignor Pace's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
