Softball Game Preview: Lafayette Central Catholic Knights vs. Carroll Cougars

The Lafayette Central Catholic Knights are taking a road trip to square off against the Carroll Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lafayette Central Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.2 runs per game this season.

Lafayette Central Catholic lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Frankfort, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's match. The Knights blew past the Hot Dogs 32-7 on Monday. The Knights' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Corinne Zehring was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and six RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Lauren Johnson was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.

Lafayette Central Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Carroll challenged Northwestern on Monday. The Cougars fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 4-3. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Carroll saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Savoie, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Savoie also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season.

Carroll now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lafayette Central Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .517. However, it's not like Carroll struggles in that department as they've averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Lafayette Central Catholic came up short against Carroll when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 7-3. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
