Football Game Preview: Mater Lakes Academy Bears vs. Northwestern Bulls

Mater Lakes Academy is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Northwestern is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bears will challenge the Bulls at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mater Lakes Academy's defense has only allowed 6.9 points per game this season, so Northwestern's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Mater Lakes Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They blew past Bishop Verot, posting a 28-0 victory. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

A big part of Mater Lakes Academy's win came down to the chemistry between Valentina Builes and her top target Nicole Regalado. Builes threw for 178 yards and four TDs while completing 73.7% of her passes while Regalado picked up 53 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Those 53 receiving yards gave Regalado a new career-high.

Meanwhile, while Northwestern put up some points on Wednesday, the same can't be said for TERRA Environmental. The Bulls came out on top against TERRA Environmental by a score of 7-0. The final result isn't all the surprising considering the Bulls' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 41st, while TERRA Environmental are ranked 129th).

Northwestern didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Alexie Nicolas and Jah'Keriyah Brown. Brown is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as she's now defended at least one in each of the last eight games she's played.

Mater Lakes Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 3.7 points on average over those games. As for Northwestern, their record now sits at 10-3.

Mater Lakes Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Northwestern in their previous matchup last Thursday, winning 15-6. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulls turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
