Baseball Game Preview: South Point Red Raiders vs. Kings Mountain Mountaineers

The South Point Red Raiders will head out to face off against the Kings Mountain Mountaineers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday, South Point didn't have quite enough to beat Crest and fell 5-4. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Kings Mountain made easy work of Forestview on Friday and carried off a 9-3 victory. Considering the Mountaineers have won six games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Gavyn Manion looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Carter Roberts was incredible, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Kings Mountain is undefeated when Roberts posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Luke Heavner, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Kings Mountain has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for South Point, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

South Point came out on top in a nail-biter against Kings Mountain in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Do the Red Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mountaineers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
