Baseball Recap: United Makes It Ten in a Row at Home

United entered their tilt with Southern on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Indians. With that win, the Golden Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Parker Newburn was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Quentin Taylor, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and four runs. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kadin Schonauer, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

United always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

United pushed their record up to 16-5 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Southern, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.
