Volleyball Game Preview: East Greenwich Avengers vs. Chariho Chargers

East Greenwich is 2-7 against Chariho since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Avengers will head out to challenge the Chargers at 6:30 p.m.

East Greenwich is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: North Kingstown, who was ranked first at the time (East Greenwich was ranked 16th). The Avengers lost 3-0 to the Skippers on Monday. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Avengers haven't been shut out since back in April.

While East Greenwich was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-20, 25-14.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Chariho, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Coventry on Monday. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Oakers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

The victory didn't come easy: Coventry scored at least 18 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-20.

East Greenwich better focus on containing Reid McCann and Jaxson Vachon as the pair were huge in Chariho's win. McCann had ten digs, five kills, and three aces, while Vachon had 15 digs. That's the most kills McCann has posted since back in April.

Chariho pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. As for East Greenwich, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.

East Greenwich came up short against Chariho when the teams last played back in April, falling 3-1. Can the Avengers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
