Basketball Recap: Westside Comes Up Short

Westside extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 2-9. They were dealt a 63-5 loss at the hands of the ED White Commanders. If the Wolverines were looking for revenge after losing 65-12 to the Commanders when the teams met back in December of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for ED White, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead ED White to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zariona Thomas, who went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc to rack up 18 points and five steals. The game was Thomas' third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Redriaunna Mitchell, who shot 71% from the field on her way to 12 points and eight boards.

Westside will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on KIPP Bold City at 5:30 p.m. on January 5, 2026. As for ED White, they will take on Orange Park in a tournament on Monday. The Commanders' defense better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 58.2 points per game this season.
