Softball Preview: Reedy Lions vs. Newman Smith Trojans

Reedy is 3-0 against Newman Smith since March of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Reedy Lions will be playing at home against the Newman Smith Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Reedy is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

While Reedy has not struggled against The Colony recently, they managed to flip the script on Tuesday. Reedy was the clear victor by a 14-5 margin over The Colony. The victory was just what Reedy needed coming off of an 8-0 loss in their prior game.

Malaina Boyst tossed a big game, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

At the plate, Reedy let Audrey Messer and Katelyn Crosby loose on the outfield. Messer went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Crosby scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mycah McClendon, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Newman Smith was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 21-0 walloping at the hands of Wakeland.

Reedy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8-1 record this season. As for Newman Smith, their loss dropped their record down to 8-17.
