Football Recap: Mitchell Tigers vs. Gering Bulldogs
If Mitchell was riding high off their 53-6 takedown of Wheatland last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mitchell Tigers took a hard 40-26 fall against the Gering Bulldogs on Friday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2021.
Defeat or not, Mitchell got some senior leadership from Adriane Garza and Samuel Bowlin. Garza rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, while Bowlin. rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Garza also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing a fumble and making eight total tackles.
Rece Knight was nothing short of spectacular for Gering: he rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 125 yards on eight of 19 attempts. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 91 yards. A healthy portion of that aerial production (82 yards to be exact) went to Barron Williams.
Mitchell's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1. As for Gering, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Mitchell will take on Chadron at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Gering, they will welcome Alliance at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
