Softball Game Preview: Southington Blue Knights vs. New Britain Golden Hurricanes

Southington has gone a perfect 4-0 against New Britain recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Blue Knights will welcome the Golden Hurricanes at 4:00 p.m. Southington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.

Southington is returning to their home field after beating Plainville on theirs, despite the fact Plainville has dominated at home this season. The Blue Knights put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 9-2 win on Wednesday. The Blue Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Angie Insogna made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashlyn Kenefick, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Delaney Archer was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, New Britain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They lost 20-0 to Berlin.

New Britain's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Southington, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.

Everything went Southington's way against New Britain in their previous meeting back in May of 2021, as Southington made off with a 22-0 win. Do the Blue Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Hurricanes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
