Softball Recap: Falls Lake Takes a Loss

Falls Lake started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Franklin Academy. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 3-2 on Friday. The Firebirds were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 14-3.

Wynterlee Glenn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Falls Lake saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reagan Yancey, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Falls Lake's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-10. As for Franklin Academy, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-11.

Coming up, Falls Lake will be playing at home against East Wake Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Firebirds are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Franklin Academy, they will head out to square off against Wake Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season.
