Basketball Game Preview: Cross Stingrays vs. Beaufort Academy Eagles

Cross hasn't had much luck against Beaufort Academy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cross Stingrays will welcome the Beaufort Academy Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Cross is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Wednesday. They received a blow as they fell 57-41 to John Paul II. While losing is never fun, the Stingrays can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while the Golden Warrriors are ranked 104th).

Meanwhile, Beaufort Academy lost to Bethesda Academy at home by a 60-46 margin on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Blazers: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Beaufort Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gunnar Andrews went 5 for 7 en route to 13 points and four steals. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for Andrews. Nycholas Underwood was another key player, putting up five points and 15 rebounds.

Cross' defeat dropped their record down to 4-20. As for Beaufort Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
