Softball Recap: Sumner Stingrays vs. Wesley Chapel Wildcats

If Sumner was feeling good fresh off their 16-4 takedown of Robinson last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Stingrays fell 10-6 to the Wesley Chapel Wildcats on Tuesday. The Stingrays were not able to make up for their loss to the Wildcats from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Victoria Baker was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Baker was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Riley Wine was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Victoria Rudolph was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Sumner's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Wesley Chapel, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-10.

Coming up, Sumner will square off against Wharton at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Stingrays' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Wesley Chapel, they will challenge Sickles at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
