League recap: Troy climbs in state rankings

Northern Tier 1 recap November 19, 2013

Troy scaled the state rankings by moving to 135 from 172 this week, the biggest jump in Northern Tier 1. The Trojans climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Montoursville 34-14.

Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Troy beat the Warriors 34-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for Jim smith's team.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Wellsboro's Michael Pietropola and Brandon Owlett have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Pietropola has thrown for 2,755 yards this season, while Owlett has 45 catches for 1,126 yards. Wyalusing Valley's Luke Jennings leads the league in rushing yards with 1,685.

In 193 carries Brandon Sturzenegger has accumulated 977 yard this year.

The Trojans took down Montoursville 34-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jed Wright threw for 16 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 193 yards in the win.
