Preview: Hodgson Vo-Tech Eagles vs. Middletown Cavaliers
Hodgson Vo-Tech has been on the road for three straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Middletown Cavaliers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hodgson Vo-Tech will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
Last Friday, Hodgson Vo-Tech humbled Caesar Rodney with a 48-20 victory. Given Hodgson Vo-Tech's advantage in MaxPreps' Delaware football rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Caesar Rodney is ranked 30th), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Hodgson Vo-Tech's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Xavier Brown, who threw for 251 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Maki Beach, who rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries.
Meanwhile, Middletown sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-12 win over Smyrna on Friday.
Hodgson Vo-Tech's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 4-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.3 points per game. Middletown has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in four of their first five contests, giving them a 4-1 record.
Hodgson Vo-Tech came up short against Middletown when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 21-14. Will Hodgson Vo-Tech have more luck at home instead of on the road?
