Volleyball Recap: Ava Victorious

Ava proved they can win big on Monday (they won by three) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Thayer Bobcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted against the Bobcats since September 25, 2018.

Ava took Thayer into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-15, 24-26, 25-14, 18-16.

Ava can attribute much of their success to Makenna Coonts, who had six digs and three aces. That's the most digs Coonts has posted over her last six matches. Claire McDonald also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Ava's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-12-2. As for Thayer, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Ava wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Houston on the 16th. As for Thayer, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Liberty on the 16th.
