Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Victories for York

York's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Downers Grove South Mustangs. That's more bragging rights for the Dukes, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The result came thanks to Avery Kanouse's shutout, as she gave up just six hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sara Steinecker, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Myka Matykiewicz also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: York kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

York's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-11. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Downers Grove South, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-17.

Looking ahead, York will take on Downers Grove North at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Downers Grove South, they will face off against Lincoln-Way East at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
