Baseball Game Preview: Chesterfield Golden Rams vs. Cheraw Braves

The Chesterfield Golden Rams will head out to take on the Cheraw Braves at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chesterfield will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Chesterfield took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Lewisville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Golden Rams came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lions on Thursday, sneaking past 3-1.

The team relied heavily on Sky Courtney, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Chesterfield's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cheraw, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They skirted past York Prep 7-5. The victory continues a trend for the Braves in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won six in a row.

Brayden Michael was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Michael wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Byrd, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Cheraw's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Chesterfield, their record now sits at 8-5.

Chesterfield might still be hurting after the 16-2 loss they got from Cheraw in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Golden Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
