Softball Game Preview: Needles Mustangs vs. White Pine Bobcats

Needles has gone 9-1 against White Pine recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mustangs will square off against the Bobcats at 11:00 a.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Needles heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Thursday. They fell just short of Yerington by a score of 7-6. The Mustangs' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Scotti Powell and Peyton Jackson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Powell went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Jackson went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI. Powell is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Edey Ponce was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, White Pine came up short against Battle Mountain on Thursday and fell 7-4.

White Pine saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cecilia Barbosa, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

White Pine's defeat dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Needles, their loss dropped their record down to 16-15.

Everything went Needles' way against White Pine in their previous meeting on Saturday, as Needles made off with a 15-5 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
