Baseball Recap: Venice Indians vs. Newsome Wolves

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Venice had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the Newsome Wolves by a score of 10-6. Winning may never get old, but Venice sure is getting used to it with their ninth in a row.

Venice got a great performance from Nate Winterhalter as he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Winterhalter has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Venice let Brady Schumaker and David Dubrule loose on the outfield. Schumaker scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Dubrule went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run. The team also got some help courtesy of August Backman, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

On Newsome's side, Cash Peterson was cooking despite his team's loss, firing off three triples and a double while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Braden Moon, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Venice pushed their record up to 26-3 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Newsome, their loss dropped their record down to 21-7.
