Basketball Game Preview: Caribou Vikings vs. Mount Desert Island Trojans

The Caribou Vikings and the Mount Desert Island Trojans will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. One thing working in Caribou's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matches.

Caribou is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Ellsworth, who was ranked fifth at the time (Caribou was ranked first). Caribou strolled past Ellsworth with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 62-43.

Meanwhile, Mount Desert Island didn't have too much trouble with Presque Isle on Friday as they won 66-52.

Caribou's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.9 points per game. As for Mount Desert Island, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Caribou was able to grind out a solid victory over Mount Desert Island in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 47-36. Will Caribou repeat their success, or does Mount Desert Island have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
