Basketball Recap: East St. Louis Comes Up Short

East St. Louis was the 62-48 winner over O'Fallon when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The East St. Louis Flyers were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 55-54 to the O'Fallon Panthers. The Flyers' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

East St. Louis lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Arlandis Brown, who went 8-for-13 en route to 21 points and three steals. He is becoming a predictor of East St. Louis' success: when he posts at least three steals the team is 4-1 (and 9-16 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Ishaia Brown, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, East St. Louis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

East St. Louis' defeat dropped their record down to 13-17. As for O'Fallon, their victory bumped their record up to 8-21.

Coming up, East St. Louis will take on Belleville East at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for O'Fallon, they will square off against Cahokia at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. O'Fallon is facing Cahokia at the right time seeing as Cahokia is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
