Basketball Recap: Burlington Takes Down Sargent in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Burlington walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 50-33 win over the Sargent Farmers on Friday. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Farmers, too.

Burlington was led to victory by Kiyarra Williams and Charlotte Goodnow. Williams dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Goodnow posted 13 points and five steals. What's more, Goodnow also posted a 57% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January. Bethany Cure was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Burlington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 23 consecutive games.

Sargent's loss came despite strong showings from Kimmy Pargin and Angelise Garcia. Pargin scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Garcia had three points and six steals. Garcia is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Burlington is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. This is the second loss in a row for Sargent and nudges their season record down to 20-7.

Burlington has already played their next matchup, a 42-41 victory against Simla on the 15th. Sargent does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
