Basketball Recap: Wagon Mound Comes Up Short

If Wagon Mound was feeling good fresh off their 82-22 takedown of San Jon last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wagon Mound Trojans had to suffer through a 96-33 loss at the hands of the Maxwell Bears. The Trojans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-18.

Despite the loss, Wagon Mound saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Josiah Vasquez posted 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerome Martinez, who earned four points and six rebounds.

Wagon Mound now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Maxwell, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Wagon Mound wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 68-42 defeat against Raton on the 12th. As for Maxwell, they will take on Clayton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Clayton will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Maxwell surely won't give up without a fight.
